FDA product tables are helpful planning tools for pork producers, vets, feed distributors

FDA has posted a series of tables on its website listing all medicated feed additives currently approved for use in swine, along with their active ingredients, brand names, label type and indications.[1]

In addition, the tables show each product’s current marketing status — over-the-counter (OTC) or veterinary feed directive (VFD) — and also indicate which OTC products or combinations are considered medically important and must transition to VFD status by the end of 2016.

Furthermore, the tables list current OTC products with performance claims only — e.g., improved feed efficiency, increased rate of weight gain — that will be withdrawn unless they secure therapeutic claims approved by the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine.

The lists for swine, which are updated periodically, are broken down into specific categories such as breeding swine, finishing swine, piglets and so on.
